FR5: SATURDAY OCTOBER 17TH

at the Nexus Art Cafe, Dale St, Northern Quarter. 8pm.

As a special warm-up to Manchester’s epic In The City Festival, and a celebration of our new venture into the world of indie magazine publishing, we’re putting on a special little show at the beautiful Nexus Art Cafe in the Northern Quarter.

We’ve got a cracking lineup as usual:

DAVID GOO (myspace.com/davidgoo)

We first discovered this guy in a damp smokey corner of a freezing Star & Garter back in 2004 or so (those were the days before it became student central) and were instantly captivated by his sounds. It’s taken us a few years but FINALLY we’ve got him to play, and we’re super super excited. With a sound that varies from blues, jazz, ska and everything else in between, combined with dark twisted lyrics and hilarious stage antics, even we don’t really have a clue what to expect. David Goo is living proof that insanity and genius are very, very close.

OMATER (myspace.com/omatermusic)

Due to popular demand we welcome back the amazing jazz/blues/soul sounds of Omater to the Friend Rock stage

THE ANGEL HURRICANE (myspace.com/theangelhurricane)

Hailing from Leeds, we’re dragging them over the pennines to give us a sample of their dreamy acoustic psychedelia for your ears. With a sound that defies their modest setup, and vocal harmonies that can induce hypnosis that Derren ‘lotto man’ Brown could only dream of, you won’t be able to keep your eyes off them

JIMMY CHAOS (myspace.com/jimmychaosmusic)

An upcoming singer-songwriter from Manchester, Jimmy Chaos is already creating quite a stir with a number of shows under his belt including playing at his beloved Manchester City after winning the ‘Bring On The Buskers’ audition. We’re chuffed to have him do a couple of songs for us, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy it.

AND FINALLY…

We’re going to have a stack of magazines to give away for free, and one of them is going to contain a GOLDEN TICKET to get one lucky reader and a mate into the next Friend Rock gig absolutely free!

Contributors needed!

Hey everyone,

I’m sure you’re just as excited as we are about Friend Rock Publications.

As a special extravaganza in preparation for In The City next month..we’re putting out a printed ‘manifesto’..a free publication full of stuff we like, don’t like and a few reviews of things we found interesting.

We’re after a couple of contributors..if anyone fancies writing a short article on this, that and the other..be it an album review, a rant, a poem, a story, anything music/art related..let us know! doesnt have to be long..500 words or so..even shorter isnt a problem.

need them reasonably fast though as i want to get everything in order asap. already got some stuff but i could do with one or two others.

if you’re interested just drop us a line, have a look at the contact page for information how 🙂
